Council Member

Dwight A. Williams | 6th District Councilman
I am an elected official serving the residents and merchants of the 6th District of Gary, Indiana. I was born and raised in Gary and educated through our city’s public school system. I am proud of the roots and guidance I received from my family and my community.
Before joining the City Council, I earned my undergraduate degree from Ball State University and my master’s degree from Indiana University Northwest. After completing my pursuit of higher education, I began my professional journey in the fields of education, social services, and healthcare.
I am a Silver Life Member of the NAACP and currently serve as a board member for both the American Red Cross and the African American Achievers youth mentoring organization. I am also a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and a founding charter member of the Alpha Kappa Kappa graduate chapter located here in Gary, Indiana.
I had the pleasure of working as an adjunct professor for ten years alongside my colleagues in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University Northwest.
I am honored and deeply grateful to the residents of the 6th District for placing their trust in me to serve as their City Councilman and as the Precinct Committeeman for G6-12 and G6-10.
